The Linscombe Farm Organic Vegetable Box Service is unique!Transplants
  • We only use our own home grown vegetables. Nothing is bought in or imported, either from the UK or abroad. Even the transplants are raised here on the farm.
  • We grow over 300 varieties of vegetables so that we can ensure that the boxes are varied and interesting.
  • Our boxes genuinely reflect the seasonal availability of vegetables in the local area.
  • We deliver to collection points, packing your vegetables in returnable and reusable plastic boxes with minimum additional packaging
  • 100% Home Grown means that we can guarantee the quality and freshness of our boxes, and that you can be 100% confident of the where your vegetables have come from – minimum food miles!
  • Our Social Responsibility Policy means that, where possible, your “food money” is retained in the local economy and that we deal fairly in our transactions.

So far as we are aware, we are the only box scheme in the UK to adopt all these principles.

How does our box service work?

How are my vegetables packaged?A Shiny Aubergine

Packed Vegetable BoxesWe allocate you three green plastic boxes, for which we require a deposit (returnable) of £10. Each week we will pack your box with a range of seasonal vegetables to the value of your box size. Boxes can be ordered weekly or fortnightly. We offer a small box aimed at the weekly vegetable requirements of a single person. The medium box is intended for a couple, and the large box for a family (2 adults, 2 medium children). These are guidelines only and you may wish to change your box size to suit your own requirements.

Can I choose the contents of my box?

Selecting leaves for the boxes

The vegetables in the box are selected and chosen by us - we do not offer a "choice" box at the present time.  We are, however, able to offer the choice not to have one or two "seasonal dislikes".  Let us know if you do not like a particular vegetable or you have a lot of a certain type of produce in your own garden.  But not having to process specific orders helps us to keep our prices lower. Many customers really love the surprise element of their box and comment that they benefit by eating a greater quantity of a larger range of vegetables than they otherwise would.

What is in my weekly box?

Cutting lettuce from the groundEach week, the box contains a fairly constant quantity of "staples" such as potatoes, carrots and onions. Onto this we try to build a balanced mix of other root crops, greens and salads,  beetroot, swede and parsnip come alongside cauliflower, broccoli and lettuce. On average, each week there are between 9 and 12 different vegetables in each box. Your box contents really do reflect the changing seasons so if you start finding strawberries in your box at Christmas you will know that the experts were right about global warming! We grow over 300 varieties of vegetable, and pride ourselves on supplying interesting and varied boxes - no two boxes will be alike.

Bag of saladCan I order extra vegetables?

We also supply a good range of optional additional items - such as bags of potatoes, carrots and onions. Changes to availability are notified through the newsletter. These extras are delivered to the collection point with your box, labelled with your name. You can also order an extra box or change your box size if you have people visiting or going away. Telephone or email your order by Tuesday evening for delivery that week.

Leafy crops in the fieldCan I cancel my box when I'm away?

All additions or changes / cancellations must be received by us by Monday each week for that week's Thursday box and by Tuesday for that week's Friday box.

Packing the Vegetable BoxesHow do I get my box?

Customers collect their box each week from their chosen collection point, returning the previous week's green box to the collection point at the same time. This means you only need to visit the collection point just once each week. If this system works, it means that there is always an empty box back at the farm ready to be filled.

Collection points are currently located at the places shown below - exact details and directions can be sent to you if necessary. If there is not one close to you - contact us. New collection points can be started at a location once sufficient interest is shown. If you have a group of friends who might also like a box, why not consider becoming a collection point yourself - and get your own box at a reduced rate.

Chillis growingHow will I know what to do with all the vegetables?

We have a comprehensive range of Factsheets for individual vegetables that are available on this website or by telephoning us. These are also normally displayed at our Farmers’ Market Stalls.

How do I pay for my box?

New customers are asked to pay a deposit of £10 for the plastic boxes. This is fully refundable should you leave the scheme and return your boxes to us. In addition,  a new customer must pay for two weeks vegetables in advance. For a medium box for example, this would mean an initial total payment of £30 (£10 deposit, plus 2 x £10 veg boxes). This payment should be by cheque and sent to the farm. Thereafter, we issue monthly statements and you can pay by cheque, set up a standing order, or pay by on line transfer.

Please do not leave any money or messages in your empty box.
